Protests throughout Iran resume; US President Donald Trump tweets a message of support for the protestors in Farsi; Trump warns Iranian leadership not to continue killing their citizens; Trump: To the leaders of Iran – DO NOT KILL YOUR PROTESTERS.
Protests throughout the controversial country of Iran continued last week after several events transpired that affected the world including the killing of their main ambassador of terror, Quds Force Commander Qassem Soleimani, followed by several missiles being fired at US forces in Iraq, and lastly, the ‘accidental’ downing of a Ukrainian airline that killed all 176 passengers on board. Protests have been on the rise for the last three months in Iran as the leadership doubled the cost of gas (or worse in some places) in response to the devastating US sanctions that continue to cripple their economy. These protests are also directly targeting what the Iranian people and much of the world believe to be a corrupt government.
While the protests are not only targeting the corrupt leadership, they are actually pointing the finger away from Israel and the United States, where the finger has been incorrectly pointed for some time. The people can be heard chanting, “Our enemy is in Iran, not America.”, and, “They are lying that our enemy is America, our enemy is right here.” Protestors are also calling for the IRGC to ‘leave the country’.
One video even shows numerous students at Beheshti University in Tehran going out of their way to avoid stepping on the American and Israeli flags that were laid out on the ground with portraits of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump. Not only were they avoiding walking over the flags, but they booed the few people who did walk over them.
As the protests resumed after the downing of the Ukrainian airline by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Trump also tweeted, “To the brave, long-suffering people of Iran: I’ve stood with you since the beginning of my Presidency, and my Administration will continue to stand with you. We are following your protests closely, and are inspired by your courage.
Trump also tweeted, “To the leaders of Iran – DO NOT KILL YOUR PROTESTERS. Thousands have already been killed or imprisoned by you, and the World is watching. More importantly, the USA is watching. Turn your internet back on and let reporters roam free! Stop the killing of your great Iranian people!” This tweet was originally posted in Farsi:
خطاب به رهبران ايران: معترضان خود را نكشيد. هزاران تن تاكنون به دست شما كشته يا زنداني شده اند، و جهان نظاره گر است. مهمتر از ان، ايالات متحده نظاره گر است. اينترنت را دوباره وصل كنيد و به خبرنگاران اجازه دهيد ازادانه حركت كنند! كشتار مردم بزرگ ايران را متوقف كنيد!
