The United States has announced that all previously imposed sanctions from the United Nations towards Iran are being reimplemented, effective immediately.

Despite pushback from the United Nations, the United States announced that all previously imposed sanctions on Iran via the UN are being immediately reimplemented after allegations surfaced that Iran is working with North Korea concerning nuclear capabilities. This means that the US is utilizing its ‘snapback’ option that was provided under the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), or Iran Nuclear Deal.

On Saturday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo explained, “The United States welcomes the return of virtually all previously terminated UN sanctions on the Islamic Republic of Iran.” According to a statement from the White House, the idea is to confront, “Iranian persons who support Iran’s ballistic missile programs and who have been associated with an Iranian organization that has played a key role in Iran-North Korea missile cooperation.”

The Islamic republic has been in violation of the terms of the JCPOA for some time now, and most recently, the regime released the amount of enriched uranium it has been producing, which is far beyond the original terms.
