Lebanon fires multiple projectiles into Israel, targeting IDF near northern Israeli town of Avivim; Israel responds with fire, claiming to have hit at least 100 targets; Netanyahu: We are consulting about the future, are prepared for any scenario, and will decide on future actions depending on the developments.

Amid growing tensions in the region, Israel and Hezbollah have now exchanged fire at the Israel-Lebanon border as of Sunday.  Hezbollah launched a multitude of anti-tank missiles, claiming to have hit multiple targets and destroy an IDF vehicle.  The IDF says that it was a military ambulance.  Additionally, Hezbollah is claiming to have injured or killed all who were inside of the vehicle, while the IDF rejects that any deaths or injuries occurred.

The IDF informed the media that while Hezbollah did hit some targets inside of Israel, the IDF was expecting anti-tank projectiles and has been preparing themselves accordingly.  A media correspondent stated, “I think Israel has been ready since Nasrallah made his speech last Sunday when he said that Israel had breached the terms of the rules of engagement that had been in effect since the end of the last conflict in 2006.”

In response to Hezbollah firing at targets near the northern Israeli town of Avivim, Israel has fired at targets near the Lebanese town of Maroun al-Ras.  On Sunday evening, things seemed to come to a calm at the border, but Israel is certain that this isn’t the end of it, as Hezbollah has vowed that they will retaliate for the drones as a separate matter.  The IDF has also instructed all civilians living within four kilometers of the border to remain in their homes and prepare their bomb shelters.

Lebanese Prime Minister Sa’ad Hariri has requested for the United States, France, and others to intervene in order to stop this from escalating even further.  PM Netanyahu stated, “We are consulting about the future, are prepared for any scenario, and will decide on future actions depending on the developments.”

While attending the first day of school in Israel, PM Netanyahu stated to his audience, A new empire has arisen with the goal of defeating us…They build proxies in Lebanon in the form of Hezbollah, in Gaza in the form of Hamas and Islamic Jihad. They are trying to entrench themselves in Iraq to turn it not only into a country through which it can transfer arms to Syria and Hezbollah, but also to turn it into a launching pad for rockets and infiltrations against us.”

Not only are ground troops in place in northern Israel, but other branches of the Israeli military are also preparing, should this conflict spread beyond the border.
