A Russian fighter jet came within a close distance to an Israir passenger plane over the weekend; Reports of multiple cases of similar activity.

An Israir flight heading to Tel Aviv from Rhodes, Cyprus, was met by a Russian Sukhoi Su-27 in Cyprian airspace over the weekend. Eventually Cyprian air traffic control separated the two jets. The Russian jet reportedly flew at a close distance for a short time.

Reports also suggest that this is not an anomaly, given that several similar situations occurred the same day. Furthermore, Russian aircraft have notoriously done this in several parts of the world. However, it remains a mystery as to whether or not this was an accident.

The Russian military has been active in the region for some time, especially in Syria, and more recently, Libya.
