Explosions and airstrikes reported near Hama; IDF announces over 200 airstrikes in Syria on Iranian and terror targets in past year; Lieberman: regarding Iranian threats, we are not limiting ourselves just to Syrian territory. This also needs to be clear.
Syrian media reported Israel Air Force strikes near Hama in northwest Syria on Tuesday evening.
Syria’s SANA state new agency reported that Syrian army missile defense systems intercepted IDF missiles on Tuesday. It claimed Israeli fighter jets entered Syrian airspace from Lebanon, attacking multiple targets near Wadi Al Uyun. It stated “[Syrian army] air defenses downed a number of rockets fired by the Israeli enemy in the Wadi al-Uyoun area in the Hama countryside.”
Over the weekend, the IDF carried out strikes on Iranian targets and an ammunition storage facility at the Mazzeh military airbase.
Last month, Israel’s Mossad was accused of carrying out an assassination on a Syrian rocket scientist, Aziz Asbar. He was killed in a car bomb last month, also in northwestern Syria. According to reports, Israel targeted Asbar as he had access to “Sector 4”, a secret weapons development unit at the Syrian Scientific Studies and Research Center.
The IDF announced on Tuesday that it has carried out over 200 airstrikes on Iranian and terror targets in Syria, firing over 800 missiles and mortar shells, in the past year. Israel’s Defense Minister on Monday stated that the IDF will continue to thwart Iran’s attempts to entrench itself in Syria, stating Israel will continue “monitoring everything that is happening in Syria… regarding Iranian threats, we are not limiting ourselves just to Syrian territory. This also needs to be clear.”
