United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reaffirms the United States stance regarding Iranian aggression; the US seeking to become less active in northern Syria has no bearing on dealing with Iranian aggression in the Middle East.
In his visit to Israel after meeting with President Erdogan in Turkey, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reaffirmed the US stance regarding the growing Iranian aggression in the Middle East. He again condoned any actions that Israel has to take to defend itself from Iran, even if those actions take place inside of Syria. Pompeo stated, “Our administration’s been very clear, Israel has the fundamental right to engage in activity that ensures the security of its people. It’s at the very core of what nation-states not only have the right to do but an obligation to do.”
Focusing on the border of Iraq and Syria, where multiple airstrikes have been carried out in the last few months, he added, “The president has committed to continuing that activity that the US has been engaged in now for a couple of years and is aimed at countering ISIS and providing us situational awareness in the region…We know this is a corner where Iran has attempted to move weapon systems across into Syria, into Lebanon, that threatens Israel and we are going to do everything we can to make sure we have the capacity to identify those so that we can collectively respond appropriately.”
Mike Pompeo made it very clear that just because the US is seeking to have fewer troops in Syria, no one should make the mistake of interpreting that as complete inactivity in the Middle East. Pompeo ardently defended the fact that if Israel were to engage in a conflict with Iran, the US would be there to assist them. Today, the US has an administration that stands with Israel and is taking action against its greatest enemy in the Middle East, Iran. In fact, decades have gone by since such a strong alliance between the two nations has existed.
What is to come?
Prophetically speaking, the LORD revealed through the prophet Ezekiel that when Israel is invaded by the coalition being led by Russia, NOT ONE country will intervene. Multiple countries will join Russia, Iran, and Turkey, while many others will do nothing but protest the event. When we look through the biblical lens of what is happening in the world today, we see many things taking shape as God said they would. That being said, the United States will have to at some point be in a position where they cannot, or worse, will not come to the aid of Israel. While the relationship between the two countries is stronger than ever today, America is only one election away from all of that changing. If we’re being honest, we recognize that this story isn’t about America. This story is His story. It is about God sovereignly protecting His chosen people of promise, Israel, and that’s exactly what he will do to end this invasion that appears to be right around the corner.

“And it will come to pass at the same time, when Gog comes against the land of Israel,” says the Lord God, “that My fury will show in My face. For in My jealousy and in the fire of My wrath I have spoken: ‘Surely in that day there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel, so that the fish of the sea, the birds of the heavens, the beasts of the field, all creeping things that creep on the earth, and all men who are on the face of the earth shall shake at My presence. The mountains shall be thrown down, the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.’ I will call for a sword against Gog throughout all My mountains,” says the Lord God. “Every man’s sword will be against his brother. And I will bring him to judgment with pestilence and bloodshed; I will rain down on him, on his troops, and on the many peoples who are with him, flooding rain, great hailstones, fire, and brimstone. Thus I will magnify Myself and sanctify Myself, and I will be known in the eyes of many nations. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.” ’
