Honduras announces hope of moving its embassy to Jerusalem by the end of 2020; Israel to open its embassy in the capital city of Tegucigalpa in return.

Following in the steps of several other countries in recent weeks, the Latin American country of Honduras has announced its intention to move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. Pending the status of the current COVID-19 pandemic, Honduras would like to make the move before the end of the year. Likewise, Israel will open its embassy in Tegucigalpa.

After his phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Honduran President Juan Hernandez took to Twitter to explain how the two countries anticipate a stronger alliance and more strategic relationship following the agreement. Honduras voted against the United Nations in 2017 following their condemnation of the US decision to move its embassy to Jerusalem.

This new development in the friendship of the two countries is expected benefit both of them economically and technologically, as well as in the realm of security.
