On Monday, five more Iraqi protestors were killed by security forces in Baghdad near the Ahrar Bridge. These deaths add to the three that were killed late Sunday evening and the 250 that have been killed in the last month since the protests began.
These protests have surfaced amid claims of government corruption and economic failure. One protestor stated, “The youth have lived through economic hardships, explosions, oppression. We want to root out this political elite completely,”.
Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi has called for the protestors to stand down, but adherence to such a request is the furthest thing from their mind as of right now.
