President Trump’s team holding meetings ahead of Bahrain workshop scheduled for next month; Meetings held in Morocco, Jordan and Israel; Peace deal to be released despite reelections in Israel in September.
President Trump’s team working in the Middle East including Senior Advisor Jared Kushner, special envoy to the region Jason Greenblatt and Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook arrived in Israel on Thursday for a meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu. The envoys met with Jordanian and Moroccan officials and its monarchs in Amman and Rabat before arriving in Jerusalem on Thursday morning, their meetings centered on combatting Iran and Trump’s peace deal.
The team met with Morocco’s King Mohammed VI, Greenblatt taking to Twitter to confirm, ”Honored to share an Iftar [meal marking end of Ramadan] this evening with His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Crown Prince Moulay Hassan, FM Nasser Bourita and Jared Kushner. Thank you to His Majesty for a special evening and for sharing your wisdom. Morocco is an important friend & ally of the United States.” Following, the diplomats met with Jordan’s King Abdullah II, who again reiterated his support for an independent, Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. A statement from the palace following their meeting read, “His Majesty stressed the need for a comprehensive and lasting peace based on a two-state solution, leading to an independent Palestinian state on 4 June 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital.”
Jordanian and Palestinian protestors organized by the Muslim Brotherhood waited for President Trump’s team outside of the United States Embassy in Amman to protest the upcoming “Deal of the Century”. General Observer of the Brotherhood Abdul Hamid Thuneibat stated on Wednesday, “No welcome for Kushner, return to your country. Jordan is not for sale; We will not allow the selling of Jordan and it won’t be an alternative home for anybody.”
Upon arriving in Jerusalem on Thursday, Kushner and Greenblatt both reportedly met with Israeli Ambassador to the United States Ron Dermer. President Trump’s “Deal of the Century” is set to be released in June at the “Peace to Prosperity” in Bahrain. The workshop will go on as scheduled despite Israel’s reelections scheduled for September, according to sources from Washington.
