Late Thursday night, two Israeli F-35 fighter jets targeted weapon depot(s) and vehicles carrying rockets belonging to the Iranian-backed group of Iraq’s Hashed al-Shaabi. The strike destroyed a significant amount of weaponry and left eight members of the Popular Mobilization Force (PMF) dead and several injured. In the aftermath of the strike, a Syrian official stated that an “Unidentified aircraft targeted vehicles and arms depots in the Al-bukamal area, causing a large explosion. At least eight Iraqi Hashed fighters were killed.”

Syria has been no stranger to Israeli strikes in the last year, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli officials have vowed time and time again to strike Iranian-backed forces wherever they need to if it means keeping Israel safe. Al-bukamal has been targeted countless times in the last six months as Tehran continues to push through the region and arm all of its proxies on the Mediterranean coast & the Middle East. As long as Iran continues to build its land bridge to Lebanon via Iraq and Syria, these strikes will only continue.

The US has denied any involvement in the strike.
