In second airstrikes in two days, IDF hit T4 airbase and Iranian missile depot, five killed; Nasrallah attacks America, Deal of the Century, claims: We will respond directly and forcefully to any Israeli attack on sites or facilities of the organization in Lebanese territory.
Israel carried out additional airstrikes in Syria on Sunday, targeting a T4 airbase with Iranian missile depots in Homs. A reported five were killed, two of which were Syrian soldiers. The strikes reportedly hit the base, destroyed a transfer vehicle and an Iranian Revolutionary Guards missile depot. The strikes followed two rocket attacks on Mt. Hermon from Syria on Saturday after which the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) retaliated hitting numerous Iranian, Hezbollah and Syrian army sites. While the IDF confirmed Saturday’s events, it did not respond to reports on yesterday’s airstrikes, consistent with the majority of covert operations in Syria and Lebanon.
The IDF continues to combat Iran’s entrenchment and efforts in Syria and through its proxies in the region. Prime Minister Netanyahu specifically addressed Iran’s massive funding of its proxy Hezbollah in Lebanon on Sunday night. He stated, “Iran transfers $700 million to Hezbollah per annum. But it does so by various methods, including fraud. In this framework, the Iranian Foreign Ministry transfers over $100 million to terrorist organizations. The money is transferred under diplomatic cover, by seemingly innocent means, to Lebanon and from there to Hezbollah.” Again exposing Iran, the prime minister added, “These enormous amounts fuel the relentless aggression by Iran and its proxies in our region. Our neighbors know it; all of the Arab states know it. This is one of the things that is bringing them to a renewed closeness with us.”
He reiterated that Israel will respond to Iran’s threats and that the Jewish state is not “deterred by them because anyone who tries to hurt us will be hurt far worse.” Referring to Israel’s strikes in Syria on Saturday and its commemoration of the Six Day War and its liberation of Jerusalem, he boasted, “We have proven this many times in the history of our state. We proved it just last night. We proved it in the six remarkable days that brought us back to parts of our ancient homeland.”
Hezbollah head Hassan Nasrallah on Sunday directly threatened the State of Israel, giving an address during Quds Day. He spoke of war with Iran as resulting in “the whole region will erupt”, threatening “any American forces and American interests will be permissible as a target.” Further criticizing the United States and its efforts and alliances in the region, he added, “The goal of the “Deal of the Century” is to strengthen Israel’s presence and eliminate the Palestinian issue; this is a false deal and the axis of resistance will prevent it from materializing… The Americans have no business with this. It is our right to have weapons to defend our countries and it is our right to manufacture any weapons.”
Nasrallah further threatened Israel, stating “We will respond directly and forcefully to any Israeli attack on sites or facilities of the organization in Lebanese territory.”
