Speculation is growing that Iraq may be one of several countries interested in normalizing its ties with the Jewish State.

Following on the heels of Israel normalizing its ties with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain, Sudan announced last week that it will move forward in the same direction. In addition to these countries, there has been significant speculation accompanied by claims from the Trump administration that at least five other countries in the region are interested in following suit.

According to at least one source, there is potential for Iraq to be one of the next countries to do so, citing indirect communication between Iraq and the United States.

Just months ago, such a thought would have been immediately discarded. However, due to the recent appointment of Iraq’s new prime minister, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, there is now a window of opportunity. Al-Kadhimi is not only supported by the United States, but is also seeking to reduce Iranian influence in his country – something both America and Israel can respect. At this time, it is only speculation.
