In the last three days, two Iranian nationals were arrested in Ecuador after it was discovered that they were using fake Israel passports while trying to leave Ecuador to fly to Spain. Both individuals, a man and a woman, are in their early 20’s. Using their own photos, the information on their fake Israel passports belonged to two Israeli individuals.
At this time, there is suspicion that the two of them have ties to Iranian intelligence. Also in their possession were their authentic Iranian passports. The couple reportedly spent nearly a month in the South American country. Last year, a very similar arrest was made when two Iranian nationals were arrested in Argentina while using fake Israel passports. In this most recent case, Ecuadorian officials communicated with officials from Israel to confirm that the passports are fake.
