The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) colonel was killed outside his home in a shooting on Sunday; Raisi: I insist on the serious pursuit of the killers by security officials, and I have no doubt that the blood of this great martyr will be avenged.
Hassan Sayad Khodayari – an IRGC colonel – was assassinated outside of his home on Sunday in a shooting by suspects on motorcycles. Following the killing, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi vowed that the assassination of the colonel would be avenged. Videos circulating on social media revealed that the US and its allies, mainly Israel, are the prime suspects behind Sunday’s event.
The colonel was in his car when he was shot five times.
Raisi stated, “I insist on the serious pursuit of the killers by security officials, and I have no doubt that the blood of this great martyr will be avenged…There is no doubt that the hand of global arrogance can be seen in this crime.”
The assassination of Khodayari is seen as the most notable killing of an Iranian official since the assassination of the mastermind behind Iran’s nuclear program in 2020, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh.
As Iran maintains its status as the world’s number one sponsor of terror, it is believed that the colonel may have played a role in something significant being planned behind the scenes.
