Hoveizeh cruise missile successfully tested during celebrations commemorating 40 years since Islamic Revolution; Iran Defense Minister: The test of the Hoveizeh cruise missile was carried out successfully at a range of 1,200 kilometers and accurately hit the set target.
Iran successfully tested its latest long-range cruise missile over the weekend.
The Hoveizeh cruise missile can reach up to 1,350 kilometers and was tested during celebrations marking the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Iran’s Defense Minister Amir Hatami confirmed the missile test’s success, stating to the press over the weekend, “The test of the Hoveizeh cruise missile was carried out successfully at a range of 1,200 kilometers and accurately hit the set target.” He boasted, “It can be ready in the shortest possible time and flies at a very low altitude…”
Iran began celebrations for the 40th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution this weekend. A ceremony commemorating Iran’s first supreme leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, kicked off celebrations that will go on through the weekend.
Iran continues to develop and test its ballistic missile program despite its violation of international law and the nuclear agreement, mainly UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (nuclear deal with world powers). Under the resolution, Iran is forbidden to produce, create or launch ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads.
Last week, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards head Brig. Gen. Hossein Salami confirmed Iran’s military strategy is to wipe Israel off the map. He was quoted stating, “We announce that if Israel takes any action to wage a war against us, it will definitely lead to its own elimination and freeing of occupied territories,” in reference to Israel’s strikes in Syria.
Following Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reports that included satellite imagery of five Iranian bases in Syria following recent IDF airstrikes, Salami again threatened Israel, claiming that the Jewish state has no place to escape. He declared, “Wherever you [Israel] are in the occupied land, you’ll be under fire from us, from east and west… When you escape, you’ll have no way but to the sea.”
