IAF strikes Hamas targets in response for arson balloon attacks; Two rockets fired at Israel early Thursday morning.
Two rockets were fired at Israel from the Gaza Strip early on Thursday as Israel commemorates its national Holocaust Memorial day. The rockets were reportedly retaliation for Israel Air Force strikes on Wednesday following arson and explosive balloon attacks earlier in the day. Palestinians in Gaza have resorted to sending arson and explosive kites and balloons over the border, causing wildfires and devastation on Israel’s southern region. Israel has been developing weapons to target such attacks.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out strikes on several Hamas targets in the Strip in line with its policy that Hamas would be held responsible for all terror from the Gaza Strip on Israel. The IDF confirmed on Wednesday, “In response to the explosive and arson balloons launched from Gaza to Israel earlier today, our Air Force recently struck a number of Hamas terror targets in Gaza.”
Following a rocket attack on Monday from Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the IDF has been on high alert. It held Hamas responsible and shortened Gaza’s fishing zone after it was increased as part of the Egyptian-brokered ceasefire from late March.
The State of Israel and Jews worldwide are commemorating Holocaust Martyr’s and Heroes’ Remembrance Day on Thursday, remembering those slaughtered during the Holocaust. Shortly following next week, it will commemorate both Yom HaZikaron (Day of Remembrance for Israel’s fallen) and Yom Ha’atzmaut (Independence Day). Israel will be celebrating 71 years this year.
