Soldiers belonging to the IDF’s Karakal Unit prevented an attempted drug-smuggle at Israel’s border with Egypt on Saturday. According to the IDF, the soldiers, who were stationed at the Faran Regional Brigade, took notice of mysterious activity near the border and confronted the suspects, only to have them try to escape and destroy evidence in the process.
After a time of pursuit, the IDF was able to take two suspects into custody and hand them over to the Israeli police.
Early in the month of October, IDF soldiers and members of the Negev Border Intelligence Unit prevented another drug-smuggling attempt at the Egypt-Israel border. In this instance, it’s reported that over 50 bags of illegal drugs were confiscated.
The Karakal Unit is an infantry combat battalion and is one of the three combat units in the IDF, comprised of both men and women. It’s reported that this unit had only been in the area for a week before this event took place.
