Major terrorist Ali Musa Daqduq overseeing Hezbollah covert terror network in Syria; IDF: We will not allow Hezbollah to entrench itself on our doorstep from Syria.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) unveiled a covert Hezbollah terror network in Syria on Wednesday.
According to the IDF, Hezbollah has been actively creating an advanced terror network in Syria, referred to as “The Golan File”. The efforts are being overseen by the terrorist Ali Musa Daqduq, a senior Hezbollah operative. Intelligence reports confirm Daqduq was deployed to Syria in order to establish the terror network. Efforts including recruitment of locals, stockpiling of arms and building of covert military bases were revealed on Wednesday.
IDF Spokesman Ronen Manelis gave a televised address from the Golan Heights on Wednesday morning, speaking in English and directing his message to the international community. He confirmed, “Today, the IDF is exposing a Hezbollah terror network on the Syrian Golan Heights aimed at striking Israel. The network is comprised of a few operatives, in Syria, but it’s led by Lebanon and masterminded by Hezbollah.”
Speaking on Daqduq, he reported, “The main guy behind it is a known terrorist, Ali Musa Daqduq, and for American ears, he has a history. He was responsible for the abduction and execution of 5 American servicemen in Iraq in 2007. He even served time in prison in Iraq, but was released in a prison swap.” Daqduq joined Hezbollah in 1983 and has been part of numerous training units and terrorism plots against the West and Israel. The terrorist even trained under the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps elite Quds Force in Iran. He added, “The infrastructure is masterminded and constructed by Hezbollah, but on Syrian soil, using the local civilian infrastructure, using them as observation points and collecting intelligence against Israeli targets.”
Manelis called on the global community to take action and condemn Syria and Hezbollah’s terrorism efforts and violation of international law. He stated, “We have a clear message: We are not going to allow Hezbollah to establish a terror infrastructure on the Golan [Heights] capable of striking Israeli civilians. We hold the Syrian regime responsible for anything that happens inside Syria aimed at Israel. We expect the Syrian regime to implement the 1974 agreement, just as we are doing, and anybody who cares about regional stability should be concerned about Hezbollah building a terror network on our doorstep.”
According to the IDF, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has been aware of the terrorist activity and may have approved it. The Syrian premier recently visited Iran where he met with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani in Tehran, as well as the head of the Quds Forces, Major General Qasem Soleimani.
Arab media claimed on Wednesday that the IDF reports are an attempt by both Israel and the United States to combat Iranian forces in the region, mainly in Syria.
As reported earlier this week, Hezbollah head Hassan Nasrallah is actively seeking donations amidst the US-Israeli waged “economic war”. Hezbollah has taken several blows from Israel- including strikes thwarting missile deliveries from Syria to Lebanon and Operation Northern Shield. The IDF completed its mission in January exposing and neutralizing Hezbollah’s extended cross-border tunnel network.
