The Gaza Strip was rocked by a large explosion in a market area on Thursday, resulting in a number of injuries and one death; Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed no involvement.
A large explosion rocked the Gaza Strip on Thursday in the city of al-Zawiya, leading to the death of one person and injuries of several more. Several structures were damaged in the event, including homes in the area as well as various shops. According to reports, the number injured totaled nearly a dozen.
Initial reports indicated that the cause of the blast remained unknown. However, there is speculation that one of Gaza’s terror groups likely had a munitions warehouse in the immediate area. Local authorities quickly contained the fire that followed.
Following the event, the IDF stated that it had no involvement. Avichay Adraee, a spokesman for the IDF, stated that “This explosion is another evidence of the way the interests of terrorist organizations are prioritized over the interests of the residents of the Gaza Strip.”
