Dozens of people reported killed and injured in an explosion at a mosque in the eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan; The explosion reportedly caused the roof to cave in; Local authorities expect more bodies to be found.

On Friday, multiple people have been injured and killed after a bombing at a mosque in Afghanistan caused the roof to cave in on everyone inside. Local witnesses claim to have heard a loud explosion prior to the roof collapsing. Early reports indicate that a minimum of 62 people lost their lives. The mosque is located approximately 30 miles from the capital, Jalalabad, in the district of Haska Mina.

According to the United Nations, well over 1,100 people have been killed in Afghanistan between the months of July-September. Even worse, they estimate 1/5 of these deaths to be civilians.

The provincial governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, stated, “The number of casualties may rise as the rescue team and people are working to bring out the bodies from the rubble,”.
