The United States and Israel signed an amendment to an existing agreement between Israel’s Ministry of National Infrastructure and the United States Department of Energy, to increase cooperation on energy. The change will increase cooperation in the areas of natural gas, desalination water treatments, smart grid technologies, fuel and defense measures, specifically cyber, for both water and energy.
The agreement is supported and funded by the Binational Industrial Research and Development Foundation and Israel–US Binational Science Foundation and expands through 2024.
US Secretary of Energy, Dr. Ernest Moniz and Israel’s Minister of National Infrastructure, Energy and Water Resources, Dr. Yuval Steinitz, met on Monday following a tour of Masada in southern Israel. Moniz stated following their meeting “Today, our nations further solidified our ongoing cooperation. The US and Israel will continue to foster research and development, drive down the costs of clean energy technologies and encourage collaboration between our nations’ top energy scientists.”
Minister of National Infrastructure, Yuval Steinitz stated “The new agreement that was signed today is further proof of the countries’ close relationship. I am certain that cooperation in the energy sector will expand in the years to come…The Unites States is Israel’s greatest friend, and we appreciate this friendship.”
