Syrian media sources have reported that Israeli Air Force jets carried out airstrikes on missile storage facilities in Syria over the weekend. According to reports from Syria’s Zaman Al Wasl, airstrikes were carried out 13 kilometers from Homs. The strikes reportedly hit Hezbollah weapon caches that were the targets of previously reported IDF airstrikes on the same stockpiles in March.

Reports from Lebanon’s El Nashra additionally claimed that listening devices disguised as rocks were found on Tuesday evening with reports from the Lebanese army claiming they had found “spying and surveillance equipment”.

On May 10th, reports claimed that Israel’s Air Force carried out airstrikes in Syria targeting a weapons convoy for Hezbollah in the Bekaa Valley in the town of Anjar, a Hezbollah stronghold. Syrian opposition reported a “number of strikes against Hezbollah positions close to the Syria-Lebanon border”. According to reports from the field, the airstrike was carried out as a Hezbollah convoy departed from the area, apparently into Lebanon.

Israeli strikes in the region have been to thwart weapons transfers from Syria to Hezbollah. Israel and the IDF refuse to respond confirming or denying reports of airstrikes and covert missions in Syria.

During his first official visit to northern Israel as newly appointed Defense Minister, Avigdor Lieberman, accompanied by IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot stated on the IDF’s presence in the north “I received an evaluation of this area, which is always a sensitive area, and I can say that our northern border is in good, safe hands. I was impressed with the assessments, the plans, and the preparedness. The role of the IDF here is to maintain security and peace on the northern border, and that is what we are doing… We don’t have other plans beyond maintaining the calm situation. I hope that everybody understand this well, also our neighbors. In any event, I don’t recommend that anybody try and test us.”
