Following comments made by Sweden’s Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom who called for an investigation on accusations that Israel is conducting extrajudicial executions of Palestinians.
Wallstrom accused Israel of “extrajudicial executions” in reference to Palestinians killed in terror attacks against Israelis, Wallstrom stating “It is vital that there is a thorough, credible investigation into these deaths in order to clarify and bring about possible accountability.”
Israel not only has begun to cut diplomatic ties with Sweden, but also has barred Sweden from participating in any future diplomatic processes between Israel and the Palestinians. Prime Minister Netanyahu also summoned Swedish Ambassador Carl Magnus Nesser where he was “rebuked by Deputy Director Aviv Shir-On”.
Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely stated following Wallstrom’s accusations “Israel is closing its gates to official visits from Sweden. For over two years, relations with Sweden have been at some level of disconnect.. We have refused visits by the Swedish foreign minister in Israel. At the clearest level, the State of Israel is sending a very stark message to Sweden that says that [when] you encourage terror [in Israel], you encourage Islamic State to act in all parts of Europe: in Brussels, in Paris. We’re currently at the front line of the battle against terror. [Wallstrom] is de facto supporting it, encouraging it, and the State of Israel is sending a blunt message.”
