Leaders to discuss peace process, region and economic status of the Palestinians; Putin lifts ban on S-300 missile sales to Iran
Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Moscow. The two leaders are to discuss the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Syria, Iran and Yemen.
Putin stated upon Abbas’s arrival, “It’s now been ten years since your election as head of Palestine. In that time, you have done a lot of work to stabilize the situation, both domestic, political and economic… Those were very difficult years. At the same time, I am glad to say that the relations between Palestine and Russia have developed consistently.”
Additionally, Putin signed a decree lifting the ban of shipping S-300 missiles to Iran, ending the ban that was placed in 2010.
In 2007, Russia signed a $800 million contract with to Iran to sell the sophisticated missile system, the freeze in 2010 part of sanctions against the Islamic Republic instituted by the United Nation’s Security Council.
As a framework agreement has been made between Iran and world powers, many are afraid that Russia will sell the S-300 missiles to Iran.
