An Israeli Border Police Officer was stabbed multiple times by a Palestinian terrorist outside of the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem Sunday morning, Hamas praising the attacking calling it “heroic”.

The officer, who is currently being treated in a hospital in Jerusalem, is in serious condition and was reportedly on life support. Dr. Ofer Merin of the Shaare Zedek Medical Center stated on the officer’s condition, “We’re in the first stages of treatment. The soldier arrived an hour and a half ago in critical condition with multiple wounds. The main wounds were to his neck and chest, with one to his heart. Currently, he is stable and not bleeding, but his life is still in danger.”

The terrorist, 18-year old Yasser Yassin Tarwa from Hebron is currently being treated for serious injuries. The officer shot him after he attacked.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat called on support for Jerusalem, stating, “I call on all residents of the State of Israel to continue visiting Jerusalem and strengthen it… I want to commend the action of a Border Policeman, who while wounded kept his cool and neutralized the terrorist, and thus saved lives and prevented further injuries. We all pray for his recovery, and we must persist and continue in our normal routines.”

Chief of Jerusalem’s Police, Chico Edry, reportedly stated following the attack, “The officer acted heroically. In any incident in which police officers or civilians are attacked, the terrorist should be killed at the scene.”
