The Obama Administration is expected to lift sanctions on Iran on Tuesday, the designated “implementation day” scheduled following the nuclear deal made with Iran and world powers.

According to the July 14th agreement, December 15th is the scheduled date for sanctions relief given Iran has reached requirements set by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Given the fulfillment of requirements and confirmation by the IAEA most sanctions will be lifted. Requirements such as scaling back on stockpiles of low-enriched uranium, dismantling large numbers of its centrifuges for uranium enrichment and filling parts of its Arak nuclear site with cement are part of the July 14th agreement.

Last week, a Russian envoy to the United Nations stated that Russia expects all sanctions to be lifted by January 2016. Russia has already begun transferring S-300 missile systems to Iran after the arms deal was delayed for 9 years due to sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

Iran reportedly violated two UN Security Council resolutions when it tested new medium-range ballistic missiles at the end of November. Iran reportedly tested ballistic missiles near Chabahar on the border with Pakistan on November 21, 2015, the tested missile traveling within Iranian territory, violating two United Nations Security Council resolutions.
