Amidst discovery of stolen humanitarian aid for Palestinians from Hamas, Netanyahu addresses irony and Israel’s concern for Palestinians
Prime Minister Netanyahu addressed the recent discovery of millions of dollars stolen from humanitarian organizations by Hamas operatives over the past decade. In a video address, he spoke of the lack of leadership by Palestinian officials, as well as address the irony of the stolen humanitarian funds for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip by its current leadership- Hamas.
In the past week, reports were released of Hamas infiltration and theft of humanitarian funds directed for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The first was perpetrated by the regional director of operations for World Vision, Mohammad El Halabi, who was responsible for systematically redirecting millions of dollars to Hamas, Halabi reporting over 60% of donations designated to the region as having been stolen to support the terrorist organizations’ efforts, estimating around $7.2 million annually, and totaling over $50 million.
The second was of a United Nations humanitarian aid worker from the Gaza Strip, Waheed Borsh, a senior employee of the United Nations Development Program, who was arrested two weeks ago, the UN employee charged for supplying Hamas with construction materials and information. On Thursday, the IDF released photos of a marina constructed for Hamas military efforts, the supplies provided from stolen construction aid for Palestinian citizens.
In his address, Netanyahu highlighted Israel’s concern and care for the Palestinians. He stated “I’m going to say something now that some of you will not believe. But I’m going to say it anyway because it’s true. I, the Prime Minister of Israel, care more about Palestinians than their own leaders do. Israel cares more about Palestinians than their own leaders do. That sounds incredible, right?”
He went on to state, “But consider the following- A few days ago, the world learned that Hamas, the terrorist organization that rules Gaza, stole millions of dollars from humanitarian organizations like World Vision or and the United Nations. Innocent and impoverished Palestinians were denied vital aid supplied from nations around the world. Hamas used this stolen money to build a war machine to murder Jews. I want you to think about that. Let that sink in. Hamas stole critical support for Palestinian children so that they could kill our children.”
He then asked “who cares more about Palestinians? Israel, that facilitates the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, every single day? Or Hamas, that robs Palestinian children of that very same aid? Israel, that treats wounded Palestinians from Gaza in its hospitals?Or Hamas that prevents injured Palestinians from getting help? Imagine, just imagine, where we might all be if Palestinian leaders cared as much about helping their own people as they did about hurting our people.”
He proclaimed that “The Palestinian people deserve better,” expressing his “deepest sympathy with innocent Palestinians and those well-meaning nations who generously donated money to help them. The cynicism and cruelty of Hamas is hurting all of us. It’s hurting peace.”
Both the United Nations Development Program and World Vision deny the charges, despite indictments and confessions from the culprits. As of now, only few countries have halted funds for World Vision.
