Iran confirms success in second mid-range ballistic missile test

Iran confirms missile test with capability of reaching over 1,240 miles; Test is second violation of nuclear deal

Iran reported that it successfully tested a medium-range ballistic missile two weeks ago, the missile capable of reaching over 1, 240 miles.

Iran’s Tasnim news agency quoted Iran’s Deputy Chief of Army, Brigadier General Ali Abdollahi stating “We tested a missile with a range of 2,000 kilometers and eight meters error margin two weeks ago. An eight-meter error margin means …full accuracy.”

In March, Iran tested two ballistic missiles on which “Israel must be wiped out” was written on the missiles. Head of the Revolutionary Guard’s Aerospace Division, Brid. Gen. Ali Hajizadeh, confirmed the test and stated that “The reason we designed our missiles with a range of 2,000 kilometers is to be able to hit our enemy the Zionist regime from a safe distance.”

Israel continues to call on the international community to hold Iran accountable for its missile testing, a violation of U.N. Resolution 2231. Following the missile launch in March, Israel’s Foreign Ministry released the following statement:

“Israel condemns the recent Iranian ballistic missile test launches. The range of these missiles includes all of Israel and large parts of the Middle East, a region currently engaged in a bloody conflict resulting in waves of refugees fleeing to countries in the region and in Europe. The commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards stated to the media that most of Iran’s missile arsenal covers Israeli territory.

The test firing of ballistic missiles constitutes a gross violation of UNSC Resolution 2231, which confirmed the nuclear agreement between Iran and the powers. The resolution restricts Iran from launching missiles capable of carrying a nuclear warhead – the same missiles that Iran test-fired this week. The development of ground-to-ground missiles with nuclear warhead capability calls into question Iran’s’ intentions to comply in full with the nuclear agreement.

Iran continues to dismiss the international community’s demands and to develop its aggressive capabilities. It seems the Zarif-Rouhani “smile campaign” is nothing more than a smoke screen to disguise the real intentions of the ayatollah regime.

Israel calls on the international community to react firmly and decisively against further Iranian missile launches and Iran’s continuing development of ground-to-ground missiles – a violation of the Security Council resolution. Iran’s ballistic missile program must stop.”

Iran denies its missile development and tests violate any UN resolutions, claiming its military advances are not subject to investigation nor any violation of the nuclear deal made with world powers.

On Monday, Iran’s Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan denied the reports, Dehghan stating “We haven’t test-fired a missile with the range media reported”, denying only the range of the reported missile test, but not the test itself.
