The IDF responded to five rockets fired into Israel from Syria Saturday morning, a result of spillover from Syria’s civil war.

Five rockets were fired into Israel early Saturday morning, four of the rockets landing in open areas in the Golan Heights, the fifth still not located. Code red sirens alerted residents of the stray fire with no injuries or damages reported.

The IDF retaliated, striking and destroying three Syrian Army cannons.

The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit released a statement on the incidents, “Even if this is just spillover, this is an exceptional incident and the continuance of such events will be met with a more fierce Israeli response. The IDF will not tolerate any attempt to harm the sovereignty of the State of Israel and the security of its residents and views the Syrian regime as responsible for what is happening in its territory.”

On Thursday, the IDF responded with strikes in Syria after a stray mortar landed in Israeli territory. The IDF confirmed the event, not giving specifics on the target. It stated following “The IDF will not tolerate any attempt to undermine Israel’s sovereignty or the security of its citizens. The IDF considers the Syrian regime responsible for what happens in its territory.”

Israel has been clear that Assad’s regime will be held accountable for spillover into Israel and that spillover into Israeli territory as a red line. Prime Minister Netanyahu addressed Thursday’s incident, clarifying Israel’s right to defend herself against any who seek to harm the Jewish State. He stated, “We have a clear policy and whoever tries to harm us- we will harm them. We do not accept errant fire and if we are hit we return fire, and it doesn’t take a long time.”
