Drone from Syria infiltrated Israel; IDF destroyed drone with Patriot missile; Netanyahu en route to Moscow for meetings with Putin centered on Syria, Iran and Israel’s security needs.
Israel intercepted a drone from Syria in the Golan Heights on Wednesday.
The IDF launched a Patriot missile at the Syrian unmanned aerial vehicle after it infiltrated Israeli territory on Wednesday afternoon. The drone was reportedly downed near the Sea of Galilee.
The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit confirmed the events, releasing the statement “The UAV infiltrated the Israeli border from Syria. The Patriot aerial defense system identified the threat and tracked it until its interception. The IDF will not allow any violation of Israeli airspace and will act against any attempt to hurt its civilians.” The drone reportedly infiltrated 10 kilometers into Israel territory before it was destroyed.
Prime Minister Netanyahu warned Syria and Iran against any aggression against the Jewish state, reiterating earlier this week “Israel will not tolerate the establishment of a military presence by Iran and its proxies anywhere in Syria – not close to the border and not far away from it.”
Netanyahu is currently en route to Moscow for meetings centered on Syria with President Vladimir Putin. Before leaving, he spoke to the press stating, “I am now leaving for Moscow for a very important meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. We will discuss Syria, Iran and Israel’s security needs. I very much appreciate the excellent direct connection, without intermediaries, between myself and the Russian President. It is very important for the national security of the State of Israel.”
