Reports claim drone sent by Hezbollah; IDF fires Patriot missiles at drone; Investigation underway
The IDF launched two missiles at a drone from Syria that infiltrated Israel’s airspace on Sunday, the drone likely belonging to Assad’s Regime or Hezbollah.
The missiles were launched from Israel’s Patriot air defense system at the drone. According to the IDF, the launch missed the drone, the UAV returning to Syria. The IDF Spokespersons Unit stated following the incident “Two Patriot air defense missiles were fired toward a drone which infiltrated Israeli airspace in the central Golan Heights. The drone returned to Syria. The IDF will not tolerate a breach of the State of Israel’s sovereignty.”
Both the IDF and Ministry of Defense are investigating the incident, multiple reports claiming Hezbollah as responsible for sending the drone.
Reports claim the drone was deployed to gather intelligence on IDF military drills currently underway in northern Israel.
