No injuries reported, but heavy damage on Sderot kindergarten; IDF: The responsibility for the incident is exclusively on the terrorist organization Hamas.
The Israel Air Force (IAF) carried out airstrikes on the Gaza Strip overnight Friday after a rocket was fired into Israel, the rocket hitting a kindergarten in the southern city of Sderot.
The building was empty and no one injured but resulted in extensive damage on the kindergarten.
The IAF reported that it hit four Hamas targets in the Strip “targeting four locations that were components of Hamas’s operational infrastructure in the northern and central Gaza Strip.” Reports from Gaza claim two Hamas and Islamic Jihad training sites were hit in the strikes.
The IDF Spokesperson released a statement following the strikes, “The IDF will continue to operate forcefully against any party who perpetrates terrorism against the state of Israel and its residents, and for the preservation of calm in southern towns. The responsibility for the incident is exclusively on the terrorist organization Hamas, and it is the one who will bear responsibility for any actions taken inside the borders of the Gaza Strip.”
Hamas is held responsible for all attacks on Israel from Gaza as it is the governing body of the Gaza Strip.
IDF Spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner stated on the rocket attack “Yesterday a rocket was launched from the Gaza Strip at southern Israel. The rocket hit in the city of Sderot, causing damage to a kindergarten. In response to the attack IAF aircraft targeted four locations that were components of Hamas’ operational infrastructure in the northern and central Gaza Strip. Over the past two days Israeli civilians have witnessed and experienced the devastating effects of incitement fueled terrorism based on hatred and radical beliefs. The rocket attack today in Sderot is a horrific reminder of the intentions of terrorist groups in the Gaza Strip to target communities, people, men women and children. In our efforts to ensure stability, we continue to defend against those who put innocent lives in harm’s way.”
