International media poorly reported on the terror attack that took place in Jerusalem on Sunday in which four Israeli soldiers were killed. Many of the headlines took hours to publish the news, with even more headlines rarely attributing the terror attack to terror.

On Sunday, four IDF soldiers were killed and 17 injured when a terrorist rammed a truck into a group IDF soldiers in Jerusalem. The terrorist continued to reverse the car and ram into more soldiers when he was shot and killed by a tour guide and soldiers nearby.

The victims of the attacks were 2nd Lt. Yael Yakutiel, 20, from Givatayim; Cadet Shir Hajaj, 22, from Ma’ale Adumim; Cadet Shira Tzur, 20, from Haifa; and Erez Orbach, 20, from Alon Shvut.

Many news stations reported an attack by a truck or “vehicle” which killed four Israelis, not mentioning a Palestinian terrorist or terror attack. Poor media coverage such as from the BBC reported the attacks as a “Jerusalem ‘lorry attack’ injures 15”, with the New York Times headlines reading “Israeli Police: Truck Ramming Kills 4 in Jerusalem”. This sort of biased reporting is not unusual for the media.

Prime Minister Netanyahu responded to the attacks on Sunday, stating that the terrorist, Fadi Ahmad Al-Qunbar from east Jerusalem, was inspired by ISIS, referring to the use of vehicles in ISIS-terrorist attacks, such as the recent terrorist attack on a Christian market in Berlin.

He stated on the attack “We in Jerusalem have just experienced an unprovoked terrorist attack, a murderous attack that claimed the lives of four young Israelis and wounded others. This is part of the same pattern inspired by Islamic State, by ISIS, that we saw first in France, then in Germany and now in Jerusalem. This is part of the same ongoing battle against this global scourge of the new terrorism. We can only fight it together, but we have to fight it, and we will.”

Hamas took the streets in Gaza in celebration following the attacks, thousands celebrating in the streets. Hamas head Fathi Hamad stated during the celebrations “The message of our Islamic party Hamas is a message of encouragement and support for every jihadi who carries out an attack that puts an end to the acts of the Zionist enemy.” Hamas’ military wing the al-Qassam Brigades responded to the attack stating “This truck attack shows that any attempt to put a stop to the resistance will fail.”
