Hamas called for the abduction of Israelis and IDF soldiers on the 41st Palestinian Prisoner Day in the Gaza Strip. The national holiday was marked with large parades and demonstrations through out the streets of Gaza and the West Bank.

Prisoner Day commemorates the first prisoner release of Palestinians incarcerated in Israel in 1974 and calls for the release of over 6,000 Palestinian prisoners, many of which incarcerated for involvement in terror activities.

Senior Hamas official Khalil al-Haya called for the destruction of the State of Israel and called for kidnappings stating to a hundreds of gathered Palestinians, “We tell the Zionist enemy: you are all a target for us and the resistance, we will fight you until we finally get rid of you and take as many captives as possible to free our heroes. Our men, our women, our children all envision kidnapping your soldiers and settlers, wherever they are. And it is our right because we have no other way to free our heroes, and it is the Zionist enemy responsible for this state of affairs.”

Al-Haya stated that he was sure the Israel “would release you as they did your brothers” directed towards imprisoned Palestinians and in reference to the release of Gilad Shalit in 2011. The prisoner exchange for Shalit included 1,027 Arab and Palestinians.
